Pune to Goa by Train

T

here are two train routes to reach Goa from Pune.

The first route is via Satara, Sangli, Belgaum , Londa, Margao and ending at Vasco Da Gama. Train No 12780 Goa Express (H.Nizamuddin to Vasco) and the weekly Poorna Express (Train Number : 11097) operates daily on this this route.

The Weekly Pune-Ernakulam Superfast Express (Train Number : 22150) travel to Goa via the Konkan railway route.

Poorna Express leaves Pune by 11.10PM and reaches Madgaon (Station Code : MAO) by 1PM the next day.

You can see the spectacular Dudsagar Falls as the train slowly negotiates the Western Ghats section on the eastern fringes of Goa. Watchout on your left after the train has left the Castle Rock station (around 10AM) and enters the forest. It's a curvy, slow and spectacular landscape, especially beautiful the post monsoon months.

You can not see this waterfall while traveling by the Goa Express, as it passes this point during the midnight.

But you could see the falls while traveling back to Pune by either Goa Express and Poorna Express as this stretch (Kulem to Castle Rock) is covered during the evening time. Watchout on your right after the train has left Kulem station.

The railway line passes right across the base of the waterfall, offering a very vantage viewpoint.
